You'll love our lesson horses and ponies. For your safety, enjoyment, and the best learning experience, we carefully match you with the pony or horse best suited to your abilities and goals.
Novice Lessons: For riders new to the sport who have had two or fewer instructed sessions. The emphasis is on establishing strong horsemanship skills on the ground and in the tack. Novice riders will learn where riding equipment is housed, how to groom and tack their horses, and the basics of riding. Following the riding portion of each lesson, riders will learn to properly care for horses and equipment, including cooling horses, and cleaning and returning tack to the tack room. Once four Novice lessons have been completed, riders will advance to Intro lessons.
Intro Lessors: One-on-one instruction for riders who have advanced from Novice. Ground and mounted portions become progressively complex, as riders acquire new skills. Time in the saddle increases, as riders become proficient at grooming and tacking. Intro lessons emphasize horsemanship and safety on the ground and mounted, and allow riders to develop at their own pace through individualized instruction.
Group, Semi-Private and Private Lessons: For riders who have demonstrated mastery of grooming, tacking, and all necessary horse care associated with lessons. For group, semi-private and private lessons, riders are expected to arrive at least 30-minutes prior to the lesson start time to prepare their horses. Riders also are responsible for caring for horses and tack following the lesson.
For experienced riders new to Lochmoor, your first lesson with us will be a Private for evaluation.
Barn Attire: Helmets are required in the barn and riding rings. We are happy to loan you a helmet, or you may bring your own ASTM/SEI certified helmet. Please wear long pants and closed-toe shoes, preferably riding boots or a shoe with a small heel.
Cancellation Policy: If you need to cancel your lesson, please notify us at least 24 hours in advance. If you do not notify us, you will be charged for the full amount of the lesson.
Lessons with head trainer Patty Rogers or professional rider Jeff Gogul are billed at the following rates:
